Skout's Honor Stain & Odor Solutions are 100% Enzyme-Free!

No Enzymes?

For many, enzymes are a standard of cleaners, so why are we running the other way? Because we’re committed to producing the highest quality, most sustainable stain & odor removing products available, and that just wouldn’t be possible while using enzymes.

The Sensitive Side of Enzyme-Based Cleaners

Enzyme technology was groundbreaking when it first started to be used in commercial laundry detergents back in the 1970s.

These simple proteins, created by beneficial bacteria in the cleaners, speed up chemical reactions and provide a safer alternative to toxic petroleum based surfactants and solvents. From an environmental and safety perspective, enzymes were a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.

However, there is a darker side to these little green cleaners…

The bacteria that produce them are sensitive little buggers with a dirty little secret – they have an expiration date.

You can count on even high quality enzyme cleaners to lose effectiveness 12-24 months after they were produced. Simply put, the bacteria die off and the product no longer has the ability to break down stains or remove odors. It’s done, finished, time to be retired to the trash.

Unfortunately, time isn’t the only thing that kills off the bacteria. The PH of your carpet or surface may be altered by previous use of cleaners, it might be antibacterial or the product might simply have been exposed to high heat or extreme cold on the way to or from the store – all of these conditions will make your new enzyme cleaner about as useful as water.

Additionally, enzymes take a long time to work – the bacteria need to produce the enzymes and digest the stinky poo or whatever it is that you are hoping they will remove. The result is that it will often take several applications to get rid of a particular stain or odor.

How do companies counter these risks? Simple, they use surfactants. Look at the back of your professional strength enzyme cleaner and you’ll most likely see surfactants listed in the ingredient deck. Why? Because surfactants rock, right? They are durable, extremely effective and get to work quickly to lift and dissolve stains. But they, too, have a secret. They are typically petroleum-based and often toxic.

The good news: we have a solution!

BioKore™ Technology Saves the Day

BioKore is a revolutionary proprietary surfactant based on an eco-friendly technology that just recently became available for use in consumer products.

It is biodegradable and doesn’t require the use of any harsh chemicals to work. Best of all, it is more powerful than many leading petroleum-based solvents and surfactants and it never expires. Did we mention it never expires?
